Melbourne has been attacked by wasps this year interupting many a Summer barbeque and setting up their nests in properties all over Melbourne suburbs.
These aggressive cousins to the bee are not a pest to be reckoned with, they are extremely dangerous and once disturbed may inflict painful bites.
They are quite recognisable as they look like a long oversized bee with brighter yellow bands.
A Wasp's venom is best treated with acidic remedies such as vinegar or lemon juice, there are many homeopathic remedies for bee and wasp stings but if you are allergic, the best advise is to seek medical attention immediately.
If a wasp nest is discovered on your property call a pest control company to treat the wasps and remove the nest. Do not attempt to remove it yourself as the wasps will become aggressive and try to defend their home.
If you are only seeing wasps swarming around your property attracted to food or plants in your garden, you may consider setting up some simple wasp traps to minimize their numbers.
